Archive: J F Walker (25th November 1839 - 23rd May 1907)

Curator of Geology at the Yorkshire Museum 1893-1907.

Specialist on fossil Brachiopoda; his collection of Cretaceous and Jurassic Brachiopoda in Natural History Museum; Shenley Limestone Brachiopoda in IGS.

Walker recognized that a single specimen could not adequately represent the range of morphology occurring within a species and his favorite dictum became:

"It would be good for palaeontology,
if all type specimens were destroyed"
